Rex Barney's Orioles Memories 1969-1994

A few years ago, Rex Barney wrote the Baltimore and Brooklyn favorite, Rex Barney's Thank Youuuu for 50 Years of Baseball, in which he talked frankly about his career as a blindingly fast but frustratingly wild phenom for the Dodgers, and about his career in baseball after his playing days were over. Now, again with collaborator Norman L. Macht, he looks back at a quarter-century of Orioles baseball, as seen from inside the broadcast booth, the dugout, and the clubhouse. He talks about his favorite (and not-so-favorite) Orioles and baseball personalities.

His views don't always jibe with popular perception, and readers will be fascinated by his descriptions of players, managers, coaches, owners, and the working press.

Rex picks a series of all-time Orioles and opponents teams that will be sure to stimulate spirited debate, and the book includes a complete listing of all Orioles players, managers, coaches, and major award-winners since the team arrived in town for the 1954 season.

Once again, Rex pulls no punches but takes no cheap shots. Orioles memories is pure Rex Barney: knowledgeable, honest, straightforward, and good-humored.

About the Authors
As a pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1943-1950) Rex Barney had a great fastball but lacked control. As a would-be pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Norman L. Macht had great control but lacked a fastball.

Unable to combine into one pitcher, they have collaborated on two books: Rex Barney's Thank Youuuu for 50 Years of Baseball, and now Rex Barney's Orioles Memories.

Barney has been part of Baltimore baseball since 1969, as a game broadcaster, call-in show host, and public address announcer for the Orioles.

Macht has written 15 baseball biographies among his 20 books, and is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research.

"Nobody knows the Orioles of the past 25 years better than Rex—or is more qualified to write about them."
—Brooks Robinson

"Rex Barney has a wealth of baseball knowledge and experience, and has been around seemingly forever. He's been a fixture with the Orioles in my time, and ranks right up there with Brooks and Frank and Jim Palmer. Everyone trusts him. Baltimore baseball has such a rich history, but very few men are in a position to tell that history. Rex is one of them."
—Cal Ripken, Jr.

"Rex Barney's love of baseball, and his knowledge of the game exceed that of anyone I've ever known—and there is no nicer guy."
—Jim McKay

"Rex has so many friends in baseball who share their insights with him—nobody knows the inside story better."
—Johnny Oates

"Rex was like one of us. We could tell him anything."
—Boog Powell

"If Rex wrote it—read it!"
—Chuck Thompson

"Rex Barney knows as much about Orioles baseball as anyone. He's been around Baltimore so long, he's older than the infield dirt at Memorial Stadium, and that's really old!"
—Jim Palmer
